Position Purpose: The Principal FPGA Digital Design Engineer will have a high degree of flexibility to develop successful electrical system design solutions that leverage high performance components and technologies as needed to meet program requirements. You will be involved in all stages of design and development from concept to delivery.

Position Type: Full Time

Pay Range: $142,000 - $190,000

(Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Expert in high-speed digital design, block diagrams, requirements definition, FPGA design and analysis, and simulation
  • Subject matter expert in one or more EE disciplines:
    • Signal Integrity, Schematic capture / layout, Harnessing, Discrete controls (z-domain), Software Defined Radio, Controls Theory, Power supply controls theory, sampling theory, modeling, and system simulation
  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience architecting complex electrical systems including subsystem design trades
  • Works on current projects or proposed future needs
  • Exceptional written communication skills, strong presentation skills and the ability to lead discussions with customers and team members
  • Expected to solve complex technical problems in any phase of development, including design reviews, executing failure analysis with root cause and corrective action
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
  • May include personnel management responsibilities

 

Required Qualifications/Education:

  • 12 plus years of relevant experience working in Aerospace organizations developing electronics
  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education
  • Versed in parts placement, trace, and plane shape requirements for the design.
  • Will work on FPGA design and may work verification.
  • Circuit board design capability is strongly desired.  We are mainly a group of FPGA designers and verification engineers who also serve the EE team at the board and system level as needed.
  • Experience with design trades, design concept discussions, system specifications, system analyses and failure reporting.
  • Exceptional written communication skills, strong presentation skills and the ability to lead technical group discussions and conversations with customers and team members.
  • Experience with Xilinx FPGAs or Microchip FPGAs.  ASIC design experience may substitute for FPGA experience.
  • Engineers who are interested in modular interface design, verification, and development using modern tools and an eye toward automation are encouraged to apply.
  • Familiarity with clock domain crossing (CDC) tools and FPGA design pitfalls is nice to have.
  • Familiar with AXI based design, DMA, and scripting tools.
  • Experience with embedded processor-based electronics architecture.
  • Experience with grounding and power distribution network (PDN) architectures for low noise systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and self-leadership skills. We have a great team and Blue Canyon values people skills and technical competence working together.

 

 Working Conditions:
This job operates in a professional office environment, but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines.
