Position Purpose:  The FPGA Digital Design Engineer II will be a technical leader in digital board level and FPGA chip level electrical subsystem design and analysis including but not limited to Power, GN&C, C&DH, RF, Harnessing and payload incorporation strategies.

Pay Range: $87,000 - $129,000

(Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Works independently and with supervision to design and generate FPGA designs and schematics based on written requirements.
  • Design and verify margin, compliance, and fault robustness of high-speed serial interfaces such as GB Ethernet, SpaceWire and LVDS interfaces.
  • Capture requirements create state diagrams, timing diagrams, and generate synthesizable FPGA logic in VHDL.
  • Design Finite State Machines (FSMs) and interface logic timing and functionality
  • Generate FPGA test vectors and simulation test benches, executing them a verification environment such as ModelSim and QuestaSim.
  • Generate circuit board schematics based on example designs, written requirements
  • Capable of board-level and chip-level debug in the lab with a variety of test equipment with supervision as needed.
  • Communicates design detail, issues, and concerns, effectively in verbal and written form.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.


Required Qualifications/Education:

  • BS degree or higher in Electrical Engineering and 5 -10 years detailed electronics design experience. 
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Will work on FPGA design and may work verification.
  • Circuit board design capability is strongly desired.  We are mainly a group of FPGA designers and verification engineers who also serve the EE team at the board and system level as needed.
  • Experience with design trades, design concept discussions, system specifications, system analyses and failure reporting.
  • Exceptional written communication skills, strong presentation skills and the ability to contribute to technical group discussions and conversations with customers and team members.
  • Experience with Xilinx FPGAs or Microchip FPGAs.  ASIC design experience may substitute for FPGA experience.
  • Engineers who are interested in modular interface design, verification, and development using modern tools and an eye toward automation are encouraged to apply.
  • Familiarity with with clock domain crossing (CDC) tools and FPGA design pitfalls is nice to have.
  • Familiar with AXI based design, DMA, and scripting tools.
  • Experience with embedded processor-based electronics architecture.
  • Experience with grounding and power distribution network (PDN) architectures for low noise systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and self-leadership skills. We have a great team and Blue Canyon values people skills and technical competence working together.

Working Conditions:
This job operates in a professional office environment, but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines.
