Title: Principal Mechanical Engineer

Position Type: Full Time

Pay Range: $130,000 - $175,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

Position Purpose:  The Principal Mechncial Engineer will work within a multidisciplinary team of engineers and lead the mechanical design of satellite bus.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development of structures for satellite buses of ESPA- class size and larger
  • Extensive use on mechanical design using SolidWorks, packaging bus components as well as spacecraft payloads
  • Creation of pertinent engineering documentation, including detailed fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, bills of material (BOM) and work instructions
  • Duties include original design work, and updates/maintenance of existing designs
  • Proficiency in analysis tools, like ANSYS or NASTRAN.                              
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications/Education:

  • Minimum of 20+ years of relevant experience working in mechanical packaging of aerospace components, structural design of space structures and/or mechanisms.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering, MS degree preferred.
  • Expert level ability with SolidWorks and producing fabrication drawings using GD+T.
  • Proven ability to accurately assess the technical landscape to determine resolutions
  • Proficiency in Ansys or Nastran FEA software and conversant in the vocabulary associated with complex structural analysis
  • Experience designing precision machined parts with extensive knowledge of machine shop and manufacturing processes.
  • Proven ability to work effectively on a team while providing SME level technical leadership, in mechanical engineering, to your colleagues
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department
  • Proactively identify, communicate, and manage risks and opportunities to senior leaders
  • Strong interpersonal written and verbal communication skills


Working Conditions:

This job operates in a professional office environment, but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines.
