Position Purpose: The Thermal Engineer II will support the engineering staff in the analysis, investigation, and resolution of engineering problems of moderate scope and complexity. Assignments are normally accompanied by general instructions and suggestions, outlining possible approaches, sources or information, and potential problems to be encountered with work reviewed regularly for soundness of technical judgment, overall adequacy, and accuracy. Tasks involve the exercise of independent judgment and discretion about matters of significance. May provide direction to design or technician staff.

 

Title: Thermal Engineer II

Position Type: Full Time

Pay Range: $87,000 - $110,000 + (depending on experience and education)

Location: Lafayette and Boulder, CO

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform thermal design and analysis of spacecraft buses and spacecraft hardware
  • Write thermal test plans, participate in thermal vacuum testing, and correlate thermal models to test data
  • Produce a quality engineering product on time
  • Give effective presentations to the team and customers.
  • Create test reports, memos, and presentations on thermal design, test plans, model correlation results, and MLI installation.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department. Interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • 4 years minimum experience as an aerospace bus or instrument thermal engineer
  • Experience using thermal analysis software on a satellite program, ideally Thermal Desktop and TD Direct.
  • Shows initiative by demonstrating personal ownership of designs, seeking input from the Systems and cross functional engineers.
  • Can work autonomously, views work with a critical eye, prepares and gives peer reviews of work prior to critical milestones to peers.
  • Ability to leverage existing designs to meet customer needs
  • Collaborative and team focused
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • Excellent communication, analytical, communication, organizational, strategic, and statistical skills
  • An effective sense of urgency and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, small company environment


Required Education:

  • BS degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering with emphasis in Heat Transfer
