Blue Canyon Technologies is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Mechanical Engineer with 10+ years of experience to join our growing team.

 

Job Responsibilities:

In this position, you will work on the design, development, fabrication, testing, and deployment of solar arrays for small spacecraft from CubeSat-sized (10 cm square) up to ESPA- class (24 x 28 x 38 inches).  This job involves extensive SolidWorks design and documentation, including creation of detailed fabrication drawings with GD+T, assembly drawings, BOM’s, and authoring work instructions.  A hands-on-hardware approach is necessary to problem-solve, create design improvements, and train peers. This job will include original design work, and updates and maintenance to existing designs. The position will include some FEA using ANSYS and working with a dedicated analyst using NASTRAN, to prove-out designs before they go into production.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years working in the composites industry or designing composite aerospace structures.
  • Strong SolidWorks, production drawing creation, and GD+T skills.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, strategic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of machine shop tolerancing and design for manufacturing.
  • Small mechanism design, analysis, and manufacturing experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including 6+ years working in the composites industry or designing composite aerospace structures.
  • Composite honeycomb panel design experience. Direct experience with satellite solar array composite panel substrate design is a plus.
  • Composite manufacturing experience with direct knowledge of tolerances, manufacturing and assembly techniques, such as insert bonding and laminate construction.
  • Satellite component design experience and an understanding of the associated environmental challenges associated with satellite missions.
  • Experience with satellite solar array design including performance calculations, array retention and deployment mechanisms, and cell layout.
  • Experience with satellite solar panel testing, including electrical, mechanical, thermal and vibration testing.

 

Working conditions:

This job operates in a professional office environment, but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filling cabinets and fax machines.
